still looking for my KITHENY/KIDNEY family. I think they are from County Cork, at this stage I am not sure of anything. Can someone help me with some help, please.

KITHENY/KIDNEY

John Kidney born in County Cork Ireland born abt. 1790, married  Mary Margaret Clark, born abt. 1793, she was a Presbyterian, I think. They left Ireland in 1845 with son John Kidney born June 16, 1821, relative Mary Elizabeth born 1823/24 and a Thomas. I think they left from Liverpool, England, maybe because their neighbors they lived nearby in Canada were from there as well. I feel strong they arrived Canada thru Gross Islle. The census records tell me from Canada they lived in or near Middleton and Carrigtwohill. Canadian records tell me Mary died in February 20, 1877 in Quebec.

John Kidney son (born in 1821) married Mary Ann McKenzie (born in 1833) in Canada. She was of Scottish descendant as was her mother in law Mary Clark, who was born in Ireland as her husband, the older John Kidney.  John Kidney and Mary Ann Mckenzie had many children and lived in the County of Chateuguay d"Ormstown Quebec Canada. James Albert, John, Margret, Mary, Peter Alexander, Robert, Susanna, and Catherine Kidney.

Years later Catherine (Kate), daughter of John Kidney married a Peter June in Montreal, Canada and my grandfather was born. The family would go to Methodist or Presbyterian churches.

Please help me in finding my Irish roots. I have been looking for years. I know all this information is correct as I found it in church records and census of Canada.

thank you,

Carole Lynn

  • Hi Carole,

I searched rootsireland.ie for John senior and Mary Clark in Cork baptisms/births for the years you gave + - 2 and got no matches.

However, when I searched for John junior with father John in 1821 I got a match. (But when I added the mother's name Mary or Margaret or surname Clark I got no matches).

The parish of John jnr's birth is Midleton Roman Catholic.

I saw your tree on ancestry and noticed another with John snr marrying Margaret Clark born 1804.

I tried searching rootsireland.ie for her in Cork with no results but in all counties there were 18 matches for Margeret Clark born 1802 + - 2 in all counties.

The marriage of John snr & Mary / Margaret in Cork brought mixed results. For the years 1815 + - 6 there were no result for Margaret but a Mary married a John Sheedy in Cork in 1815!

In the Tithe Applotments (1823-37 free to search) there are 47 Kidneys including a few Johns.

There were 16 matches for the children of John Kidney & Mary 1831 + - 20 years and 4 for John & Margaret in those years.

Can you tell me where you found John's birth-place and year and Mary's please.

    Col
