I am seeking information on my great-grandmother Catherine LONG, born c 1837 in Cork, the daughter of Dennis LONG and Norah CALLAGHAN (?). She was a Roman Catholic and emigrated to Victoria, Australia as a single woman in the 1850's (supposedly after her parents had died). A sister had previously migrated to Victoria and married, but died while Catherine was still at sea.

Has a Catherine in 1837 mother Mary Coghlan.
There is also a Mary in 1831 mother listed as Norry Corriga.
Major headache is that at a time when illiteracy was the norm, spelling of surnames was a bit of a lottery depending on how the person recording interpreted what was said. Also RC records Latinised many names to fit in with the fact everything was recorded in Latin.
