  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Do you know what part of Cork Maurice and Ann were born in? Do you have any documentation that mentions a townland/parish/village or town? One of the main sources of genealogical information available for this time period are church records, however most of these are held locally, so in order to check these you need to know the name of the parish.

Do you know much about their emigration? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. So if you knew the city of arrival perhaps you may be able to find information there-and maybe even an exact place of origin!

Could you also clarify where they lived before moving to England? You say they were born in Cork, but have posted this to an Tickmacreaven parish. Did they live here before they left? If so, you may be able to find some mention of them in the land records known as the Tithe Applotment Books, which date from 1823 to 1838. You can search these here:

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
