I am hoping to find information on three O'Connel / Connell sisters, one is my GG Grandmother, Julia  whose birth date about 1835 in Cork, who married Patrick Dorgan in Honesdale, PA 13 March 1853.  She probably emmigrated between 1848 and 1852 to New York city.  Johanna whose birth was 20 Feb 1818 in Cork.  She first married Richard Daly possibly 7 Nov 1840 in Glanmire, Cork.  She was a widow who emmigrated in 1848 and married Jeremiah Dorgan in NYC 1 Sep 1848 at Trinity catholic church NYC.  She later brought her three sons and mother to the US in the late 1850's.  Timothy birth Dec 1841, Denis Jan 1843, and Richard about 1847.  I think there may have been three other children  who died in Cork.  The third sister Ellen born 1825, married John Flynn about 1850 in Cork and emmigrated about 1855.  WE think their parents were Denis and Ellen O'Connell / Connell both born about 1800.  I think all these people were roman catholic. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Normally, RC parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross have their records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie but for some reason the Glanmire records are not on the site. I made a number of searches trying to find your family with no success. Here is a the link to the parish register for Glanmire  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0053  I found the 1840 marriage between Richard Fahy and Johanna Connell. Unfortunately, you will have to search the parish register manually to find your family records.

Hopefully, I'm wrong and someone else will identify where the Glanmire records are located.

    ClementsKirkDorganHealy,

Please see attached. I didn't include the entire family line, however, hopefully this will get you closer to part of your family tree. I will be in Cork in July 2018, perhaps we will meet. Let me know if this helps.

It appears this part of the family ended up in Wisconsin.

  • According to the NLI website, a Glanmire parish register for 1841-1870 was not submitted for microfilming.  Therefore it was not digitized.  The missing register is at the parish office.  The office also has an index for all of the Glanmire records.  In 2014, before the parish records were posted online, the parish secretary did a search for me for a fee and found my family's records.  Here is the link to the parish contact information: http://corkandross.org/parishes/glanmire/.  Catherine Creede

  • I found a naturalization petition for Timothy Daly, son of Richard Daly and Johanna O'Connell/Connell,  which lists his birth 25 October 1842 at Nagill, Cork, Ireland.  I believe we found the marriage of Richard and Johanna at Glanmire 16 August 1841.  Is Nagill a correct name somewhere close to Glanmire?
