I am trying to bring closure on a tragic case where my Grandmother Bridget Manning, born in Cork circa 1877, became pregnant at the tender age of 15 and was shipped immediately by her family to the Belfast Workhouse, where she gave birth to my Father on 15 August 1902.  She died in Belfast on 7th August 1950. Her death certificate shows no name of the father, but states 'widow of horse dealer'.

I have tried unsuccessfully to find her birth certificate and perhaps details of her family.

Can anyone help please?

I looked at www.findmypast.ie  (a subscription site) for civil birth index records for a Bridget Manning born in Co. Cork in 1877. There were no 1877 Bridget Manning births in Co. Cork. There were two births in 1874 and one in 1875. If you want to pursue checking with the General Register Office, I can explain the process. However, without knowing the names of her parents or where in Cork they lived, how can you know for certain which one of these records pertains to your Bridget. Now if she lived in Cork city than maybe the first record below is worth pursuing. Let me know.

  • Hi Kiernan

I found similar results to Roger's on www.rootsireland.ie/ which is also a pay-per-view site.

There are 2 birth/baptism records of Bridget Manning 1877 + - 3 years in Cork:

    1 is 1874 & the other 1879 both in Aghada R C parish.

The records on rootsireland MAY have the parents' names - some do & some don't.
