I am looking for information on a William Buckley and his wife, Mary Keeffe. I believe they lived in Millstreet, County Cork.

They had a least 6 children: Denis- born about 1854, Abina(Abby)- born about 1860, Patrick- born about 1862, Ellen- born about 1864, Honora (Nora)- born about 1866, and Johanna (Hannah)- born about 1868.

Abby emmigrated to the United States and was married in the western part of the state of Massachusetts in the town of Montague on 28 Dec 1881 to a John Moylan ( Parents- Lawrence Moylan and Catherine Dooley). She died there 11 Nov 1889.

Her brother Patrick also emmigrated to Montague, Massachusetts and married a Nora J Moylan ( Parents- Lawrence Moylan and Bridget Fitzgerald) on 02 Nov 1889. He died in Lawrence, Massachusetts on 03 Oct 1894.

I have no information on Denis, Ellen, Nora or Hannah or any other children that may have been born into the family. I do not know if any of them emmigrated out of Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi -

For information regarding which civil parishes make up the RC parish of Millstreet you might try:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseact…

You might also use the site: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - to ?browse? an overview of available records per county.

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information.

The Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land -if any- the family may have owned.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    kind regards,
