I'm looking for ancestors of my great great grandfather.  His name is Patrick Hennessey, b.3/17/1818, d.3/4/1905.  He married Mary Welch, b.12/25/1826, d.6/17/1910.  They married on the day they came to Rhode Island in 1839.  Gravestone says they are from Parish Middleton, County Cork.  Later his father and brothers came over to the US.  His parents were James and Fannie Cantley.  They moved from Rhode Island to Washington County, Arkansas, where they died after having many children.  Any help is appreciated.  I will be coming to Middleton this September (2013).

  • Hi Martha,

I too am researching my Hennessy Cork heritage!

From your records in the US, do you know James & Fannie's dates of births? Or any of the brothers'  dates of births? You could search though www.rootsireland.ie & ancestry.co.uk for any records of James, Patrick & Fannie, or the brothers. Try fo find their births and James & Fannie's marriage dates/where it took place. Also search the Tithe Applotment books & Griffiths evaluation (theyre registers of all landowners & tenants back in the early to mid 19th century...now online for free) for James or the brothers. Midleton is a big enough area so if you could narrow It down a bit, it'd be easier on you. I'd also suggest looking on www.historicgraves.com for Patricks parents' graves. If you need a hand with any of these sites, let me know.

The name Cantley is mostly found in County Down, but I did find this online which you might find interesting: http://grinolds.com/Cork_Roots.html.

    Good luck,

    Crea
