I have been trying for 25 years to connect to relatives descended from my 2xgreat grandparents, Patrick Barry and Kate Barry nee McCarthy of Midleton.
Given the large quantity of information below , I can't believe that it is not possible, with a bit of luck, to make contact eventually.
Patrick b.abt1803 was a shoemaker living and working on Main St, Midleton according to an 1843 Parish Census.
Kate (McCarthy) Barry was from ChT - ?Churchtown - in Cloyne Parish and her parents were John and Elizabeth (Barry) McCarthy.
There was obviously close connections between these Barry and McCarthy families.
Kate, McCarthy was born 1818 probably in Churchtown, Cloyne - at age 15, Kate began having children by Patrick Barry b.1803 of Midleton. They married in 1841 in Churchtown, Cloyne Parish.
Kate had an older sister Johanna b.1808 (living with Kate at Main St in 1843 parish census), and brothers David b.1810 and Garrett b. 1812.
Kate & Patrick had nine sons and three daughters (see below) - Garrett b.1854, the sixth son, was my g/grandfather. He migrated to Australia in 1870s.An older brother was Patrick David Barry aka Patrick McCarthy Barry, (b.1852 d.1925, aged 73, buried Holy Rosary Church. He had continued to operate his father's shoemaker's shop at (?34) Main St.He married a Johannah (?McCarthy)who died 1908 aged 57. He then married a May Esther ? who on his death married a Thomas Geaney. May Geaney ran the shoemaking business until her death in 1965 when the business was inherited by her niece who lived in Cork City. The niece sold the business, I believe. I obtained this latter information from a helpful lady in Midleton. Unfortunately, I have since lost contact. The children of Kate McCarthy and Patrick Barr were: Mary Ann b.1833; Richard 1835; William 1839; Elizabeth 1842; John 1844; Patrick 1846; Catherine 1849; Patrick David 1852; Garrett 1854 (my great grandfather); Justin Robert 1856; James Joseph 1859; Robert Henry 1862. Thank you for ploughing through all of the above. Don Barry, Brisbane, Australia

Hi Don,
A granddaughter of Thomas Geany, Anne McAuliffe is living in Midleton and remembers May Geaney's Shop well. Thomas Geany ran the post office in Middleton. She also remembered all of the connections that you have above and is going to do some research for you to see if she can find any of the Barry relatives for you. May Geany lived with Batrick Barry in the rock area of Middleton in a red brick house which is still standing. patrick barry's headstone is in the cemetary in Middleton. I will be in touch again as anne passes information on to me!
hope this is some bit helpful.

Hi, Grace,
this really helpful - also exciting for me after so many years of trying.
I've written dozens of letters to Barry residents in the Middleton telephone directory and published several letters in the Cork Examiner as well as regional newspapers, but little success.
if your "lead" should put me in touch with other Patrick Barry - Kate McCarthy descendants it would almost be a miracle.
Many thanks,
Don Barry,
