I have managed to find out that Patrick Murphy (my great grandfather) died 15 Dec 1952. I have hit a wall in trying to find his birth record. As far as I know he was born in the Mitchelstown area. He married Catherine (Kate) Carey around 1912 (+\- a year or two) and they lived in Mulberry Road until they both died (Kate died possibly in Jan 1973). I have discovered through family that Patrick's father was Michael Murphy (known locally as Ceol Fear or music man) but do not know his mothers name. I have found a death record for a Patrick Murphy in Mitchelstown for 15 Dec 1952 aged 74 which if the correct record would mean he was born around 1878 and make him older then we thought he was. Any information regarding birth records for Patrick would be greatly appreciated

    I will alert our parish liaison in Mitchelstown about your message. I took a quick look for marriage index records for a Patrick Murphy marriage in Co. Cork to a Carey and the only one I located was a 1905 Patrick Murphy/Anne Carey marriage.

  • Thank you for your reply and padding my message on, with regards to the 1905 marriage I don't think this is them as my great grandmother Catherine was known as Kate and never Anne. 

    I forgot to add that Patrick is buried in New cemetery Mitchelstown, which I believe is part of Brigown Cemetery
