I have a DNA link to Patrick Driscoll (b about 1820) m Julia Healey. Found working on Sag Bridge Canal, Illinois.
Son
Patrick Henry Driscoll b 1861 Illinois Married to Mary Leahy
He is related, somehow, to my John Driscoll (b about 1832) who married Kate O'Neil and left Castlehaven and Myross Parish, Rineen Mill area around 1864 for London.
Another DNA link is to siblings James and Mary Driscoll (b about 1820) children of Mary and possibly Dennis (b about 1795) according to burial record for daughter Mary. Mary married Michael McCarthy and lived in Cinncinatti, Hamilton, Ohio.
I am trying to confirm if Patrick, Mary, James and John are siblings or cousins.
Could be from Castlehaven/Clonakilty or Rath areas.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
Did you know that Irish Genealogy have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their website free of charge? It is an ongoing project so only a small number of counties have been included so far, including records from the Catholic Diocese of Cork and Ross which incorporates Cork city and parts of Co. Cork. Fortunately the areas that you have mentioned fall under this diocese so you should be able to find church records relating to the family here.
You may find records that help confirm the relationship between these Driscolls, such as common ancestors or perhaps you may find someone mentioned as a sponsor or witness etc.. You can search the records here:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
Another useful website is the Irish Times as they give you an overview of what records are available in specific parishes.
For Castlehaven: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Cork%20South-West&parish=Castlehaven&churchid=27
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

Some other websites that you may also find useful in your research are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

I hope this is helpful.
Kind regards,
