I wish to find out more information on
CATHERINE OCONNOR.
She was married to Andrew Obrien in Newmarket on the 03/07/1855
She died on the 30/09/1907.
She had 5 children one of which was Stephen Obrien who emigrated to Australia on the Almora on the 15/06/1883. Born 18/12/1863.
He is my great grandfather who was born in Cork.
I have previously enquired about Andrew Obrien my gg grandfather but with no result.
Thankyou

  • Dear Pauline

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

As you say the couple were married in Newmarket on 03/07/1855 but unfortunately there is no listing of either set of parents' names on the marriage record. This leaves us having to guess at Catherine's age at the time of her marriage in order to ascertain what baptism is available (in Newmarket presumably). If you go to rootsireland.ie you can search by county and will see that between 1825 and 1835 there is one Catherine O'Connor baptised in Newmarket on 13-Jul-1833. Parents' names are recorded as Charles Connors and Ellen Quinlan. The family lived at Knucksyuvane, Newmarket. Sponsors names are John Collins and Catherine Connors - perhaps these sponsors names mean something in your family tree?

I can't say for sure if the Catherine above is your ancestor though, as all we have to go on is the Newmarket connection mentioned on her marriage record and she would have married in the the parish she was originally from. Do you know if she had any siblings?

Other children born to Charles and Ellen include: Ellen baptised 13-Oct-1835, Benjamin baptised 18-Feb-1838, Edmund baptised 06-Oct-1842 and Charles baptised 14-Sep-1847.

Let me know what you think

    Best wishes
