I'm forever searching for my G G Grandmother Julia Murphy. She married Denis Dennahy.  Her first child was born in 1858 so I presume she was born 1835-1840.  Finally, I found on one of her children's baptism records a sponsor name Carolous Murphy.  I've not seen that name before- I guess it would also be Charles or Carroll. It could be her brother or father?  Thinking this was my break through  I started searching ancestry and found a few.  Also the sponsor on my G Grandmother was an Honora Murphy so I feel like I'm starting to gather the family members. Looking  for Murphys is like looking for a needle in a haystack.   I found a Denis Danahy and Julia Murphy marrying in 1866 but that would be after 3 or 4 of their children were born so I doubt that's them.  I do have all their children but am looking further back if possible.

Anyone have the name Carolous Murphy in their tree??

Thanks in advance

    Hi Kayceey,

My name is Anne Marie and I am the parish liaison for Newmarket North Cork, I had a look at the records but I am not sure to what dates to look for, I did find a Nora Dennehy baptised on the 18th April 1861 in Cullen Co.Cork to a Denis Dennehy and a Julia Murphy, could this be one of their children?

Also a John Dennehy baptised 30 May 1865 in Millstreet county Cork, parents Denis Dennehy and Julia Murphy, a Patrick born5 Jul 1867,  Catherine born 11 Jul 1872, Jeremiah born 12 May 1874, James born 6 Jan 1867.

None of the children are born in Newmarket but still in the North Cork area, is this your family?

Caroulus is latin for Charles, many priests wrote the names in Latin

  • Yes, Anne Marie these are Denis Dennehy and Julia Murphy's children along with Timothy b. 1858, Mary b. 1863 and Denis b. 1869.  I am trying to compile any Dennehy and Murphy sponsors from their baptism records in hope they are siblings of the parents.  Not understanding the area is confusing as most of them say diocese of Kerry but they are still in Cork.  Are there any records available before 1840?  I would imagine both Julia and Denis would of been born somewhere around 1835-1840.   I still can't find a marriage record for them other than the one for 1866 which I doubt is them seeing they had a few children before then.

I was hoping that name Carolus Murphy might be my key to going further back if I could link him with parents having a Julia, Honora and Daniel.   Honora and Daniel were also sponsors.

I have gotten further than I ever thought with my G Grandmother's family but we always are looking for more!!!

  • Thank you Anne Marie for taking the time to look for me.  I just joined the Drishane message board.  I think that's where I should be looking.
