Hello, I am looking for any info on a Mary Shine who was born around 1878 in Newmarket. Her parents were James Shine and Catherine Lane. Any info would be appreciated.

  • Hi Tugguy

Mary Shine was born a couple of years earlier , she was born in the townland address ''Commons'' in Newmarket on the 1st March 1873, her father was James P Shine and mother Catherine Lane.

James and Catherine had more children

Jeremiah baptised 11 July 1863 in Newmarket, his twin Patrick

Catherine July 1865 , James born 24 May 1867 Commons Newmarket, Johanna 3 April 1871, Honora 27 August 1874, Denis Feb 1880, Humphrey born 1 March 1882, and finally Elizabeth 22 August 1883

I am unable to find a marriage record for James and Catherine Lane

All these records can be found on www.rootsireland.ie a subscription website

  • Wow, thank you so much for this info. I was actually at my Grandmother Mary Shine's property a few years back, and remember the address ", "commons", it was just outside of the town of Newmarket. Thank you so much.

  • If I may ask another question....I tried to track down the present owners of my Grandmother's birthplace, I used a site called "Land direct". The latest record I could find was it was owned in 1960 by a Denis Shine, which from the info you sent me, could very well have been my great Uncle. How would I go about finding the present owner of that property?

Any info will be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

  • Hi Mark

Do you have an exact address of the property? If it is a freehold  you will not  be able to find owners, only the registry of deeds have that information this  is not public.  Only option is to speak to the locals really
