My 3x great grandparents George Julian Lyall (b Lincolnshire) and Marian Bennett (b Surrey) spent about twenty years in Newmarket, co Cork, Ireland. They marry there in 1857 (Church of Ireland, Clonfert), although George apparently already had a child born in Newmarket in 1855 (name and sex unknown, mother unknown). At the time of their marriage she worked as a lady's maid at Newmarket House, presumably for the Aldworth family. He is listed as land steward on various certificates and although it doesn't state the place of employment, I assume he too worked for the Aldworth family. Or are there other large farms or estates in Newmarket? They have at least 11 children, after which, in 1873, they suddenly move back to England, where they have a further two children. I'd be interested to find out more about their time with the Aldworth family. Apart from the possible illegitemate child in 1855 I have also no baptism (or burial) details of the children born before civil registration.

Many thanks for your reply! All sources mentioned had already been contacted and/or consulted, sorry for not making that clear. It seems very little of the estate records from the Aldworths survive. I have got the birth certificates for all their children born after civil registration. I also have the following booklet: Newmarket court (1725-1994) by the Duhallow Heritage Project (1194) (reference found via http://landedestates.nuigalway.ie/LandedEstates/jsp/estate-show.jsp?id=2527,) which proved to be very interesting. Still got some avenues to follow such as the baptism records and local newspapers, however I would like to know if there are any further, perhaps very local, sources.
If someone was described as "land steward" in the late 1850s to early 1870s, presumabely that could only have been in service of the Aldworth family? Or are there other local large estates/farms that require such a role?
Also, I contacted the Cork Archives and although they have photographs in their possession, these are largely portraits of indiviual members of the Aldworth family and friend. I would of course be very interested if photographs which include staff members survived! Or anything that could shed further light on their life there!

My great grandfather Jeremiah, arrived Sydney NSW November 1858 on board "Mary Pleasants". married Catherine McNamara from Co Clare at St Marys Cathedral in 1860,they had 4 children and he died in Sydney 1882
