Lloyds in Rathcormack

Have you tried looking for Christopher's birth record to find out who his parents? are? You could also try searching for his marriage record as this sometimes lists the couple?s fathers? names. It will be difficult to find these records without an exact parish of origin, however you could take Rathcormack as a starting point.

Most catholic records are held locally  so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Rathcormack  parish, follow this link:

You may also be able to find some church records online at www.familysearch.org or www.rootsireland.ie . Please note that you have to pay to use Roots Ireland.

If you are unsuccessful in the Rathcormack records you could use the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records  compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. They offer no genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. I did a search for Christopher in Cork and had one result, from St. Finbar?s parish:

I have the marriage certificate for Charles Lloyd (born 1830) and Mary Kelly in Victoria, Australia in 1865.   Charles' parents were Christopher Lloyd and Isabella Kelly and he was born in Castlins, County Cork.  The Castlins could be Castlelyons.       Christopher's occupation was shown as 'tradesman'.  Your relation could be a sister of Charles.

I haven't been back here for a long time so I have only just found your message.  Since posting I have found the death certificates for both Christopher and Isabella; I have also found a marriage record and I believe that Isabella's surname was Kiely and that her father was John Kiely and that he was a policeman.  Kiely and Kelly is similar!  My great great grandmother was Mary Collis Lloyd (1832-1867); she was baptised in Rathcormack church.  She had siblings: Elizabeth, Annie and Christopher.  Mary Collis Lloyd married my 2x great grandfather, Joseph Bishop, in Shrewsbury, England.  After she died Joseph married her sister Elizabeth Lloyd in Cork because marrying the sister of your wife was not permitted in England!  On one of the marriage registers Christopher Lloyd (the father) is described as a farmer; on his death certificate he is a gentleman! 

If you think there is any connection with your family I would love to know.  My lot were all protestant as far as I know.
