Hi my name is Ron Lanning and i'm from New Zealand my GGGGrandfather is named William Lannin his occupation on one of his Sons Wedding Cert was Labourer,my GGGrandparents are Nathaniel Lannin ( Born circa 1819 ) who Married Margaret Mahoney( Born circa 1826) in 1846 at St Finbarrs Cathedral in Cork City , Nathaniels occupation was also Labourer , Margarets parents were James Mahoney and i think Margaret Russell who had a number of Children Baptised there in Cork City . Typically things aren't straightforward !, i have found a Nathaniel Lannin Born around that date in Schull but according to the records his Father is Nathaniel and a witness to the Birth is William Lannin !,of course confusion there is possible but who knows .There have been for sometime Lannin's in the townland of Skeagh which is my current speculation for the place of living for my Ancestors. My GGGrandparents left Ireland in 1846 travelled around Southern England and ended up in Cornwall,England in 1852 where my GGrandparents James Lannin and Catherine Gould left in 1873 to end up here in New Zealand in 1874.

Hi,
Thank you for your message and for sharing this information on our message boards.
Just to clarify, do you have a specific query that we may be able to help you with?
Also, did you know that Catholic records from Cork City and Schull have been uploaded free of charge to http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ ?
Kind regards,

Hi Ron,
My name is Louise Hourihane from Ireland. My great grandmothers was Nancy Lannin(Prodestant/Church of Ireland/Anglican), born circa 1846. who married my great grandfather Jeremiah Hourihan, Roman Catholic (born circa 1841). Nancy chnged religion to Roman Catholic when she married.
Nancy was from Kealkil, Bantry, Cork and lived in 'Carriganass Castle'. I am trying to trace this family which is how I cam about your post. Many of my relations live in Kealil to this day(my father's birthplace) which is adjacent to Carriganass Castle. Some records I have come across which may be of interest to you include:-
1. Griffiths Valuation of Ireland - Kilmocogue Union of Parishes (Church of Ieland) which lists a William Lannin( may be my great great Grandfather??) and Nathaniel Lannin.
I use myheritage.com and have started a family tree called Hourihane Family site.

Good Morning,
Thank you for this forum and all of the valuable resources.
I am also researching my Lannin ancestors in County Cork. My 3rd great grandmother is Mary Lannin born 1823 from Coolcoulaghta, Durrus, Bantry. Her father is William Lannin and she married William Miller in 1846. The marriage record has not been uploaded yet to Ireland Civil records.
I find them mainly in the Durrus area but I have many ancestors in Schull and Goleen so maybe there is a connection.
Still working on this branch of my tree and it is great to have this forum. Thank you, Barbara in the United States

Hi guys. I am also tracing my Lannin ancestry. I am from Innishannon Co. Cork and my great grandmother was Lannin from Cork. I was with my grand aunt a few weeks and was asking her about her mother who was Lannin and she mentioned the Hourihanes in Kealkill and that they used to go back to them as they were related so that is something definitely there Louise :) I hope we could find out more on this. Hi Paul,
Thank you so much for this information. You are the very first person to make a tangible connection with my Lannin heritage. I have left a link below of my family tree on myheritage.com. It details everything I know on the Lannin connection. Perhaps you could have a look and ask your gand aunt if she is familar with any of the people?

Hi Everybody,
just a further quick response to the queries above. I am placing a link after this sentense that covers the years from 1800 - 1900 in the Diocese of Cork & Ross and which generated 409 baptisms and 66 marriages from Church records.
If anyone wants help to follow up anyone in particular in this list or wants help with some other specific Lannin, you can contact me through this website message board or contact me on my personal email addres frankfahy054@gmail.com Please note that I am no longer using my old eircom.net due to the ridiculously inept behaviour of the Eir netwoork.
