    Hi Patrick,

    Thanks for your message.

Lissangel is a townland in the civil parish of Caheragh Co. Cork, so it would be a good idea to join that parish and post this message there in the hope that one of our volunteers in the area may be able to help you.

Do you have any other information that you could share?

Did Alexander or Richard emigrate? If so do you know anything about their emigration?

Do you know what religion Alexander was before he changed to Catholicism?

You could try searching in Church records for information on Alexander. It is likely that he may have followed the Church of Ireland, for information on these records check:

http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.  The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf

You could also try doing a search at https://familysearch.org/ This is a huge database of genealogical records that has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It includes pre-1871 marriage and death records for Ireland.

Have you looked at the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century for some record of Alexander? Although these do not contain any genealogical information they can be used to tie a person to a specific place at a specific time. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Some other websites which you may find helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

    Failte Romhat: www.failteromhat.com

    Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/cork/index.html

    Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm

I hope that this is helpful. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
