Hello, thank you for take the time to read my message of inquiry. I am looking for information about my great-great grandfather's family who, I believe, were from county Cork, Ireland. I only have a little bit of information about this person who immigrated to the United States (from Canada) in 1834. His name was Jeremiah Fitzgerald and was born approximately between 1809-1813. Last year I uncovered a letter written to him in 1859 from his sister Julia. In the letter Julia Fitzgerald mentions their siblings; Timothy, Dennis, Patrick, Catherine and Daniel. The reason I joined this group is my ancestor mentioned, during the immigration process, that he was born in Timtletane in the County Cork, Ireland. I've never been able to find any reference of Timtletane in Ireland but noticed that Templetrine is very similar. Hope you can help me find a link to his family there in Ireland. Thanks in advance.

Jeremiah:
I checked www.irishgenealogy.ie which has a lot of Co. Cork baptismal records but did not locate a Jeremiah Fitzgerald from 1809-1814. You may want to spend more time on that site.
I also went to the National Archives site www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie to search for Fitzgeralds. There were 532 listed but only one in Templetrine parish Edward Fitzgerald in 1833. You may want to look at this site.
Was Julia married and to whom? Maybe you can find that person in the 1852 Griffiths Valuation survey for Co. Cork. www.askaboutireland.ie
Finally, www.seanruad.com has a data base of all 60,000 townlands in Ireland as of 1851. There are other possibilities to consider. You may want to do a search for all townlands that start with T in Cork and see other possiblilities. Templetrine may be correct but I also found a Templebodan townland in Templebryan civil parish.

My great-grandfather's name was Jeremiah Fitzgerald. He was born in the late 1800s. He lived in NYC. I don't know if there's any connection.

Helllo,
My grandfather was Jeremiah E. Fitzgerald. He had a construction company in New England. His construction company built the Mystic Bridge, Mystic, CT. He died long before I was born. He married Mary Russell and had a son Edward Russell (changed his name to Russell during WW2). Both of his parents died when he was young. My father died in the 70's. I have uncovered alot of information from a gravesite in CT but I have been unable to trace anyone to Ireland. I believe my great grandfather was Patrick Fitzgerald and his wife was Mary. I would love to find out any information.

I am sorry I cannot add any useful information to your search but I just had to contact you to tell you about an unbelievable - almost uncanny - coincidence regarding Jeremiah Fitzgerald.
Whilst researching my own family tree (My Grandfather came over to England from County Mayo), I came across an entry in the 1881 Census for England that had such a profound effect on me that it inspired my first full-length historical novel - ?ine. Changing the name of what I believe to be my Great Grandfather - James Durkin - I came up with the name Jeremiah Fitzgerald for the head of my (now) fictitious family. Having visited Gouladoo - near Bantry Bay - almost twenty years ago, I used this for the openning setting of the book. I also took my family back in time to that of the early 19th Century.
Out of curiosity, I did a Google search today for Jeremiah Fitzgerald and came across your entry! I found the fact that your relative with the same name should come from the same area and be born around the same time almost incredible. I do hope you find this as surreal as I did!

Chancing luck and answering an old post !
Templetrine Parish includes the village of Ballinspittle. My grandmother was a Fitzgerald from here. Her grandfather was Jeremiah and born around 1813. His father was also Jeremiah. The name Jeremiah continued to be used by this family in later generations.
In the 1800's there are various Fitzgerald families from the Ballinspittle area in surrounding townlands. How and if they are related is lost in time ? I have had a male Fitzgerald cousin yDNA tested on FTDNA. Interestingly a neighbouring Fitzgerald male also has tested and there is no match at any level. Could be a NPE (non parental event) but equally it indicates that you can't assume to much in genealogy?
There are Fitzgerald's in the Templetrine Graveyard.

However the family grave for my Fitzgeralds was at the Innishannon Graveyard.
I'd be interested if you have made any progress ?
