I am the Great Grandson of John Hannigan, born 22 April 1865, Baptised 6 May 1865 in Cools/Tullyease. He was the son of John and Catherine Hannigan (nee Lynch) who were married on 26 March 1860 in Kilmeedy, Cork.

John jnr arrived in Australia in 1884 as a single man of 19. He took up land in north eastern New South Wales where he raised Ayrshire dairy cattle for butter and cheese production. John married twice, first in 1888 to Sarah McLoughlan, and Australian born woman. John and Sarah had nine children, of whom my grandfather was the second eldest. The children of this couple later became known as the "First Family" as Sarah died in 1910 and he married Margaret Hanly. They, too had nine children - known as "the Second Family". My mother, at 95 years of age, is the last survivor of the grandchildren of the First Family.

John was a well respected and knowledgable breeder and judge of cattle and newspaper reports of agricultural shows in the Norhtern Rives area often refer to his activities as a cattle judge.

John died in 1925 of perotonitis due to a ruptured appendix and is buried in the city of Casino.

I am moving into the area of the Hannigan and Lynch genealogies and would apprecirate any links or other information that will allow me to fill the branches of this side of my family tree.

  • Judy,

Yes, Maurice Felix was my grandfather, married to Rosemary Larkin. My Mum is Marie Therese, and she is the last living grandchild of the First Family.

My Father was Reginald Adams. I know of Kevin and Michael, who died in infancy and are buried at Rookwood Cemetary. I have their grave numbers, but they are unmarked. I know nothing of a Paul, but since Kevin and Michael were born in 1920, and my Mum in 1925, there is time for another birth in between.

My sister and I are Mum's only children. We are Baby Boomers. My sister had one daughter, Jodie who has three sons. I had a son and daughter and have one grandson.
