I am trying to trace the descendants of my Great Uncle Edward Stuart Henry who was born on April 17, 1854 in Blackheath, Blackhill, Macosquin, Coleraine, Northern Ireland. He was the son of James Henry (September 24, 1818-December 27, 1910; Craiglea Glebe, Blackhill) and Rachel Stuart (December 2, 1820-May 17, 1908; Clinta House, Macosquin). He emigrated to the United States in August 1873 (per Family Register).  I only once found anything online which closely matched my research; a Mr. Jack West of Burbank California posted to the LDS Family Search forum about Edward and named his parents and two of his siblings. He was close on all dates that he mentioned. I tried unsuccessfully to contact Mr. West and the LDS were unable to help. I did find an Edward Stuart Henry in Fairfield Conn. but I'm sure this was not "my" Edward. Family lore states that he went out one night with his horse and buggy and was never heard from or seen again. His father James Henry was a senior elder in Killaig Presbyterian Church for many many years. In the late 1890's his father contacted the Chief of Police of New York city trying to trace Edward's whereabouts but he too was unsuccessful.

Any information greatly appreciated.

  • Hi

Thank you for your message. Do you know much about Edward's life in the united States - as this might be a good place to look?

If you haven't already you might try looking for information in The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a ?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 records is available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad that appeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/
