Hi, i am trying to trace my 3rd Great Grandfather William Blackhall born around 1796 in Ardboe, County Tyrone. He left at some point and settled in West Bromwich in England. I know very little of him and have been tracing him for years. Any help would be so appreciated.

  • Hi

Do you know much about his emigration? Dates, the reason why he left, who he might have travelled with etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information.

Some sites that might be of assistance:

Remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

Stayed with Army until 1834- then discharged at Longford ( possibly bought himself out as men signed up for 30 years in that days - not changed to 7 years until 1840's). In 1834 married a Welsh girls Caroline JOnes in the wild back end of Wales . No details Margare dying - but a second ceremony for William and Caroline in Worcester favours the theotry he may have married her bigamously - and the 2nd ceremony was when he was legally free to wed. Dies 1867 in West Bromwich. Happy to share any info we have - perhaps you can help me out?
