Hi

I'm looking for more information on my great great grandparents William John Crooks (born 1839) and Mary Fullerton (born 1842). I believe they were married in Lissan in July 1858 (or sometime around then). I've pretty much hit a dead end beyond that though, such as where both of them were born, who their parents were, and possible reasons for why they left (they ended up in Philadelphia).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Andy,

William Crooks marriage to Mary Fullerton is registered in Cookstown 19th July 1858. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.  The certificate will give you their fathers’ names and occupations as well as their couples addresses, all of which should enable you to search back further.

Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church which should be on the certificate (unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings.

Post the information from the certificate here and we’ll do our best to suggest where to search next.
