Currently researching my Great Grandparents on my Mother's side - James Evans and Sara Johnstone, married in the Parish of Magherafelt in the early 1880's.

Trying to find how they were able to emigrate to New York City and from where they travelled.

  • Hi Pechaplin,

The marriage of James Evans and Sara Johnstone in Londonderry was in 1882

The record is available for purchase from www.rootsireland.ie for about $5.

The record will give you the parish in which the marriage took place and parents' names.

On ancestry.com there are a lot of James and Sara Evans in the immigration & travel search

You may be able to get access to ancestry at your local library or genealogical society or subscribe for a month.

    Best regards
