Has anyone every heard of a parish, village, town of INISNICK in Co. Derry?  My ancestor, James A. Scott, was born in 1833 and on his Civil War pension records it says he was born in Inisnick Ireland.  His service record said he was born in Dairy Ireland which I take to be Co. Derry or possibly the City of Derry.  I am sure the person who was writing this down was spelling phonetically and since my ancestor didn't come to the US until 1850 he probably had a pronounced brogue.  Does anyone have any ideas???  Thank you

  • There?s no townland named Inisnick or Ennisnick (a common alternative for Inis) in Ireland, let alone Co Derry. You can see all the townland names on this link. Nearest in Co Derry would seem to be Inishrush.

Scott?s a pretty common name in Co Derry ? there were 121 Scott households in the 1831 census for the county ? so it is quite likely that the family came from there, based on the information you have.

What religious denomination was he, as that can be a pointer?
