My grandfather James Campbell, born 7th June 1891 in Brigend, District of Burt. On birth certificate it has mother Elizabeth Gallagher formerly Campbell (although realising how ad hoc the recording could be it may be Cambell formely Gallagher(. Father is not recorded. Present at the birth was her mother Sarah (I cant read the writing properly but it looks like) McLaughlin.
James (parents listed as William Campbell and Elizabeth nee Carlin - both deceased) married Mary Ann Moran (parents John and Julie nee Byrne) at St Marys Church in Greenock, Scotland. Witnesses included Patrick Campbell and Annie Doherty (who Jimmy married in his latter years (3rd wife) They lived at 10 Red Row Buncrana, Donegal.
I would really appreciate any family links for my tree.
Thank you Trish Dempsey

I forgot to add that he married on 10th August 1917 and was in the 3rd Battn Connaught Rangers at the time. They had four children - John, Elizabeth (Lily), Theresa and Ann (my mother) also all deceased.

Hi Trish,
I'm a little confused.
So let me get this right - James Campbell born 1891 to Elizabeth Gallagher formally Campbell (as you said it was probably the other way around). His grandmother Sarah McLaughlin ( Elizabeth's mother) was present at his birth.
In the second paragraph you write that James Campbell's parents are William Campbell and Elizabeth Carlin.
Are there two different James Campbells? Or is the second James Campbell the father of the first James Campbell?
Have you tried the website - Donegal Genealogy Resources - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/
As the name Campbell is a Scottish name you may want to contact the Monreagh Heritage and Education Centre which focuses on Ulster-Scots heritage. http://www.monreaghulsterscotscentre.com/
Another place you might try is the Gallagher Clan - http://www.gallagherclan.org/
I hope this helps and let me know how you get on.
Best of luck with your research.
Kind regards,
Eimer

I forgot to say that it might also be worth contacting the Connaught Rangers Association - http://connaughtrangersassoc.com/
They may be provide you with some information about your grandfather.

Both certificates are his. The birth certificate was among my mother's belongings and the marriage certificate was sent by a cousin to my sister. It does make it very confusing. We did wonder if William adopted him. It was a period when family members would have done this to cover any scandel that may have prevailed.
He was Irish. Had the loveliest soft accent. I believe there are a number of Campbells around Burt. He lived in Buncrana for a number of years with his 3rd wife Annie nee Donachey (Annie the Black). She died 1976 and is buried in Cock Hill, Buncrana, cemetry with her parents.
Thank you for the contacts. I will try them.
Regards Trish
