Based on some research, My Great Grandmother, Catherine Daly, nee McAteer, was born in Donegal to Charles McAteer and Catherine McAteer, nee Gibbons, in Ballycallan, Clondavaddog Parish. Charles McAteer died in 1870, whereupon Catherine Gibons McAteer married Robert Morning of Ballynashanaugh, Clondavaddog Parish. They had multiple children.

GGM Catherine Daly, nee McAteer, emigrated to USA in or around 1888. She married Roger Daly, formerly of Tyrone County, in 1893 in Philadelphia, PA. They had a son, Charles, about three months before Roger died in 1895 of typhoid at age 25. Charles Daly was my Grandfather. Catherine Daly then married Charles McGinn, also of Tyrone, and they had multiple children.

So there, are McAteers, Mornings and Gibbons from Clondavaddog related to we Dalys and McGinns in Philadelphia.

  • Hi Chuck,

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Thanks for putting up the message, I will reply properly tonight when I get a moment away from work.

I was wondering if you would be interested in adding Catherine as an addition on the Ancestors page, with brief contact details perhaps.

I can add a local landscape photo if you dont happen to have a family photo of Catherine, it will look pretty good and they have added a comment section so that interested family

would be able to contact you at some time in the future.

  • My sister sent me the attached photos. Her scanner was not working, so she took photos of the photos.

The first is undated, but has the handwritten notation (from their daughter, Kit McGinn Pyle) "Mother and Dad McGinn".

The second is a picture of Kit McGinn Pyle (my Grandfather's half-sister, and my father's "Aunt Kit") with GGM Catherine ("Kate") McAteer-Daly-McGinn. The handwriten notation on the back of the photo says,"Kit and Mother. 1926. Before mother started to fail."

GGM Kate is from Clondavadogg, County Donegal.

You have permission to post the photos.

  • Hi Chuck,

It would be far more benificial for you to add your GGM Kate McAteer to the Ancestors page yourself, rather than me, I am sorry as I should have emphasised more to you above.

The reason is you will be able to re-edit and add material to it as many times as you want and any time you want in the future. If I happen to add it for you, you unfortunatly would not be able edit it going forward. Most importantly, if someone such as a distant relative sees this profile some time and wants to comment on it, you will be alerted to the message automatically.

I am hoping you will find this easy enough to do, the information you gave in the the introduction above is pretty good and it tells her life story very well. I added to it a small bit (below) but please edit it as you wish. Upload the second photo as it is, and the administrator in irelandxo will edit it as required. I have noticed you dont have a birth year, you will have to add this, at least a rough estimate of when she was born. I will research this further as soon as I can get a chance....Seamus

    Catherine McAteer (b.______)

Based on some research, My Great Grandmother, Catherine McAteer, was born in Fanad in Co.Donegal

Her parents were Charles McAteer and Catherine Gibbons, from a Townland called Ballycallan (near Portsalon) in the Parish of Clondavaddog.

Charles McAteer died in 1870, whereupon Catherine Gibons re-married to a Robert Morning from Ballynashannagh.

They had multiple children throughout their time together in Ballynashannagh.

My Great-Grandmother Catherine McAteer, emigrated to the USA in or around 1888. She got married a Roger Daly, formerly of Tyrone County, in 1893 in Philadelphia, PA.

They had a son they called Charles Daly, and unfotunatly his birth happened to be only three months before Roger Daly passed away in 1895 of typhoid at the young age of 25.

Charles Daly would have been my Grandfather.

Catherine Daly (nee McAteer) got re-married to Charles McGinn, also from Co.Tyrone, and they had multiple children throughout their life together.

So that is how I come to have McAteers, Mornings, Gibbons from Donegal and Dalys and McGinns from Tyrone,

All part of my large family, at home in Philadelphia USA.

  • It's so good that you keep information about your family and you have such old photos. You are very lucky. I only have old photos, but very little information about my family.
