Doherty McCarron Dever connection.

Hello,  My GGG Grandmother was Eunice Doherty, child of George and Catherine Doherty.  She married John Mooney in Clonmany, Ireland date unknown,  But Eunice would have been born about 1808 in Ireland, and came to Boston, MA via Eastport, Maine about 1831.  I see from various MA City directories a number of Dohertys living near my Mooney family.  I presume you have picked up where they lived in Boston from these directories?  I wish I could go with you to Donegal, as I suspect our families were neighbors, and perhaps intermarried.  Best of luck,  Norma Mooney Milne

Clonmany RC record start in 1852 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0356  Rathmelton is in Aughnish civil parish which is a good distance from Clonmany. I don't recognize Falprobog.

I searched Roots Ireland and found the baptismal record for Owen in the Clonmany records and the 1861 marriage of John and Mary in Clonmany. Both records show a townland but neither is an offical townland name. The Alprabay could be Altahalla  The 1857 Griffiths for Clonmany civil parish does show a John Doherty in Altahalla. Of course, there were 25 John Dohertys in the parish who were head of households.  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/donegal/clonmany.htm

Wow, thank you both for your quick response.    

I do look forward to the hunt and hope I am able to figure out exactly where john came from prior to my visit.    I donot see any Eunice in my family but have not been able to go far enough back.  I have been able to track all of the family from John and Mary from the time they arrived in Boston using the US census from late 1800's on.     

Roger I will visit the links you have sent and hopefully be able to gather more info.

Hi,

I have lots of Devers in my tree from Urris in Clonmany. My ggg-grandfather was Neil Dever, born 1828 in Urris, Clonmany and he married a Margaret Doherty,born 1827 of Clomany. They came to Boston before they got married and got married in Boston. I don't know anything about Margaret but I know all about the Devers. My grandmother was a Dever. My great uncle was Paul Dever, the governor of Massachusetts during the 40s.
