My great-grandfather Quigley, born in Ireland, I'M GUESSING DONEGAL, married ? Lacey, & they set off for Oshawa, Canada. Had 4 kids then both died. Is he really from this parish (just a "feeling")?? Or was Lacey? Don't know first names.

  • Hello Kathleen,  Welcome to Ireland reaching out.  Can you supply any more information on your ancestors.  The information you have given us is so vague that it would be quite imposible to start a search at this moment in time.  Have you any idea of dates involved and what are the given names of Quigley and Lacey?

As I don't know what timeframe you are looking at 21st, 20th, 19th, 18th century, it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  I would suggest that you try and do as much investigating over there as you possible can.  You may need to go back through marriage and baptismal certificates until you reach one of these people.  Ask any of your elderly relatives if they have any information.  Look at death announcements that may have been in the newspapers.

As soon as you have something a bit more concrete, then please get back to us and we will do our utmost to help you.

look forward to hearing from you in the near future,

    Anne Dennehy

  • Kathleen:

We have a parish liaison in Clonmany parish, I will send her an e-mail to alert her to the message. I do know that she is very busy. If you are on Facebook, here is a link to her Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/clonmany.genealogy?fref=ts

  • Well, I do know that my grandfather, the youngest of the 4 children was born in Oshawa, Canada (maybe all 4 were) around 1892-1895, so his parents probably were 20-30 years older, giving them birth years AROUND 1860-1875, perhaps? And I'm sure they were married before they left Ireland...

  • That's what I'm looking for---I only know that my father's name was James (after father's father?), & he married a girl Lacey (Lacy?). Thus Quigley & Lacey.
