My father Vincent Breslin's mother Roseann Doherty was born 3 April 1895 at Gortyarn, Carndonagh she married Patrick Breslin 11 June 1920 at the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh.  Her parents were John Doherty and Catherine Sweeney.  Roseann died 16 March 1924 when my father was 3 weeks old, she is buried in Carndonagh alongside her parents.

Does anyone recognise these names.  I have completed some reasearch on this family and would love to share information with others.

Thank you

Norah Wood nee Breslin

  • Hi Norah

It would be a good idea to have a look at the search facility of the Message Board to see if anyone is researching this family already and has perhaps missed your message. You can search by adding the family name in the search box at the top

  • I am also trying to find information on the names Doherty and  Breslin in the hope of making a connection to my ancestor Mary Dohery who was probably born some time around 1820 in Carndonagh. Unfortunately your information is too recent but if you have family history going back in time I would love to compare this with my information.

DNA positively matches a descendant of Bernard Doherty and Ellen Breslin

  • Hi Maggie

I have a Mary Doherty, sister of my grandmother Roseann born 10 June 1897 Carndonagh married unknown McHenry parents John Doherty and Kathleen Sweeney.  Mary was known as 'Mary the Glen'.

The above John Doherty had a sister Mary Anne born 23 Aug 1875 Carndonagh died 10 July 1964 Saint Louis, Minnesota.  I don't know who she married.  As you say these are a a bit later than your Mary.

  • Hi Maggie

That would be great.  My email is norahbreslinwood@yahoo.co.uk

I have come across many duplicate names.  My Doherty's have the tee-name of 'Mullier'.

    Thanks

  • I have looked further & see that my grandmother(Frances (Kearney)Mccool)had 2 of her sisters that married Dohertys.Lizzie Born. approx1858 & other sister Sarah(Born. approx1865)From what I see Lizzie remained in Carndonagh but I do not know about Sarah-but all of their children would be Dohertys. Their mother (my great grandmother )  was Katherine (Doherty ) Kearney born approx 1830-40?(her siblings were:Bernard,Peter,Michael,lBetty,Mary,Sarah,& Bridget)                                        Also,my great great grandmother was Katherine McLaughlin(also  spelled McGoughen) & she married William Doherty.             Hope this sounds familiar to someone.   Nola(mccool) Mcgillycuddy
