Hello!  I have recently located information on my Boyle line showing that although they were living in Derry for most of their lives, originally they were from Glenties.  My GGGG-grandfather, Charles Boyle, was living in Derry as a publican and tailor.  He was born anywhere between 1833 - 1842 and died 9/2/1905.  His death cert advised he was born in Glenties.  I know his father was Manus and I believe that Manus stayed in Glenties.  Any assistance to locate information on Manus or his wife (name unknown) would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi,

Boyle is very common in West Donegal especially in Glenties and surrounding areas - I also have Boyles from the early 1800's that I am stuck on.

I can recommend a few websites to check out and contact.

    Donegal Genealogy Resources - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/

    Glenties.ie - http://www.glenties.ie/

    Donegal Library Service - http://www.donegallibrary.ie/

I wish you all the best in your research and I'd be interested to see if you find a Hugh Boyle in your search.  Unfortunately I don't have either a Manus or a Charles in my tree.

    Kind regards,

    Eimer

  • Thank you so much for reaching out and giving me some places to look!  I am really starting to believe that I am close to a dead end.  I plan on traveling to Glenties this May and hoped to pinpoint an area to visit.  I just might have to enjoy all the sights!

    Thanks again!

  • According to Griffiths Valuation there is one MAnus Boyle recorded in the parish of Inishkeel.

Here is the link - http://tinyurl.com/c777ccu

If you click on the Manus Boyle in the parish of Glenties you will get some info.

The original ledger page will show you that Manus lived in Letterilly and that he lived in number 20.

Then click on the map and find the area.

Here is an article that will explain it more for you. - http://donegaldiaspora.ie/news/find-your-ancestors

Just click on the PDF file at the bottom and follow the instructions.

The sights in Glenties are beautiful and if you follow everything here then you may just have somewhere to visit :)
