Good day!  My name is Marie Malloy and my great grandfather Michael McClafferty was born in Donegal and married Ellen Ward, daughter of James Ward (1839-1893)and Anna Ward (1838-1903) to the best of our knowledge.I am making my second trip beginning May 16, ending 31st and this time want to find family - the people who gave me life.  Michael immigrated around 1855 (?)  married Ellen - we think in Pennsylvania, but may have been in Ireland.  Their youngest son, William Thomas McClafferty was my grandfather.  i know nothing about McClafferty before Michael and nothing about Ellen other than her parents' names.  I would love dearly to honor them by learning more about them, standing where they stood and visiting their final resting place if possible.  Any information is so very welcome and makes me very, very blessed.    Thank you.   Go raibh maith agat!

    Ward and McCalafferty are fairly common names in Co. Donegal which complicates the search.

    I looked at the 1901 census for Anne Ward but there were too many Anne Ward possibilities in Co. Donegal to narrow the search. www.nationarchives.ie

    I looked for a death index record for Anne in 1903 but did not locate one in Co. Donegal. I did locate an Anne Ward who died in 1906 in the Glenties registration district. The registration district of Glenties is in southwest Co. Donegal and includes about 9 civil parishes. See link below. Again, this assumes the record below pertains to your Anne Ward.

    It is too late for your trip but maybe after you return you can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie for a copy of this record.
