Hi,

I'm not sure what parish to lookf for, but my ancestor comes from Glenties. His names was James Browne (born about 1845) and he married my ancestor Anne Byrne (b. 1873) in 1901. However, James was married to another woman before Anne but I cannot find out her name. Could anyone help? I have no idea who she was and I'd at least like her name. I don't know when they would've married but he was born 1845 so anywhere from 1863-1900 I would think.

Thanks.

  • The only James Browne marriage in Glenties between 1864 and 1901 is the one you have mentioned. So it looks as though he must have married in another registration district. Unfortunately that is a real needle in haystack. There were several hundred James Browne marriages throughout Ireland if you search on 1870 plus or minus 5 years.

I looked at female deaths in Glenties 1864 to 1900. There was probably only 1 of a woman of about the right age. Jane Browne aged 48, regd Glenties Jan ? Mar 1880 Vol 2, page 118. You might think it worth ordering that to see if that was the missing wife.
