I wonder if this might be your family:

    1901 census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Clogher/Carnbeagh_North/1167082/

    1911 census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Clogher/Carnbeagh_North/477809/

I see a possible marriage registered in Donegal Town for Edwin Thomas Pearson on July – Sept 1915 Vol 2, page 215 & (Sadie) Sarah Pearson to Andrew Johnston in Apr – Jun 1920 Vol 2, page 25. There are other Pearosn marriages in Donegal town that might be siblings eg Margaret Jane 1906, Annie, Edith, Adam & George.

Thomas married Sarah Anne Ramsay in 1871, regd Donegal Town Vol 7, page 33. 1911 census indicates they had 9 children of whom 5 were still alive. The marriage certificate should give you Thomas’s, townland, his father’s name and occupation which may enable you to trace back further.

The Pearson family are not listed in Griffiths Valuation for 1857 for Carnbeagh North so it appears they moved there after that year.

Carnbeagh North is near the main road from Donegal Town to Ballybofey. It’s half a mile east of St Agatha’s church.

The family were Church of Ireland. Donegal town's parish records go back to 1691 (with gaps) so if they were in that parish in earlier years you may be be able to trace back quite far, which is unusual in Irish research.

  • My Great great great grandparents immigrated to America around 1840's from donegal leaving behind family.Would be interested in talking to you.My father , his brother and several other relatives from my Pearson line have DNA tested and would love to learn if you have.Maybe we are distant cousins. My ancestors who immigrated were Gibbons Pearson and his wife Jane Wilson Pearson.I have been communicating with another gentleman who's ancestors came from Donegal and moved to Australia, he also has tested.

  • My grandfather was John Joseph Kee Pearson born Oct.13, 1901  in Killymard, Clar Lough Eske, Donegal.

    His siblings were:

Elizabeth Mary b. Oct.27 1884 married Alexander Morrow 4 children; died in USA

Robert William b. May 8 1885, married twice but no issue; died in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Anne b. May 30 1888 married James Moran and ? Torrance 1 child; died in Hamilton

Edith b. Sept.18, 1891 married James Morrow  6 children, died in Ireland

Adam b. Dec. 19, 1894 married Annie Allan 3 children; died in Hamilton

Thomas b. Jan 27, 1897 married Sarah Doherty, 6 children Greta, Lily, Edith, Sadie, Willie, June; died in Ireland

my papa John married Mary Elizabeth White and they had 5  children; my mother was Gladys b. 1928 m. Joseph Moore died in Hamilton

Samuel Herbert b. May 22, 1903 married Isabella Bartley 3 children ; died in Ireland

I suspect your Thomas is my great-uncle but I am guessing that your date of 1877 is off.  If your mother moved to Australia in 1962, how old was she?  what would have been a reasonable age for her father at that point? 1877 would have made him very old in 1962.

Thomas's father was Robert William (Old Robbie) b. Dec.01, 1860 in Clar Cam/ Lough Eske. He married Margaret Irwin of Irontown.

Thomas's grandfather was Robert b.1826 in Killymard and he married Elizabeth Lyttle who was born in 1827 in Drumenny. She died around 1863. and Robert married again to Rebecca Scott. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Lyttle and Anne Kee. Anne was the daughter of Samuel Kee of Castlederg, Tyrone. She had 4 siblings

Thomas's great-grandfather was Edward Pearson, born around 1797 married to Margaret McKee Aug. 28, 1823 and died March 14, 1873. They had 3 children Robert, Jane and Mary.

  • Hi

Thank you for that, and yes 1897 is the better date for my Grandfather as my mother Lily was born in 1925 and married my father in 1946. My mother and father are now both dead.

All that information is fantastic, and if you want information on the Crossan side in Australia please let me know.

    Regards
    Tom

  • Hello, Pearson-Wilson,

You mention Gibbons Pearson; that's an odd first name.  I've been searching for Gibbons in Donegal for many years.

Ann and Kate Gibbons came to US in about 1850, settling in Pittsburgh, PA.  My ggmother came at age 15 to live with them.  She called them Aunts.  I have some evidence that they had a sister or cousin Hannah who married Michael Doherty who, I think, are parents to my ggmother's mother, Mary.

Have you any info on the Gibbons family in Donegal 1800-1880?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Cousin Sarahg,

so your g-grandfather Thomas was the brother of my grandfather John (Jack).  You mentioned that the witnesses at your great-great-grandparents' (Robbie Pearson and Maggie Irwin) wedding were both from the Kee family ( William Kee and Susan Kee).  My grandfather 's full name was John Joseph Kee Pearson.   We are pretty sure that Tom and Jack's maternal grandmother was Ann Kee who married Adam Irwin.

    Sláinte Mhaith,

    Cousin Bob
