I am interested in obtaining more information my ancestors who came from Malin to Australia in 1856.

My great-great grandfather was Patrick Monagle, born about 1840 and his wife was Mary McLaughlin, born about 1842. Both were born in Donegal, as far as I can determine.

I believe they were married in Donegal on 3 Nov 1862.

Patrick's parents were James Monagle and Mary Mullin.

Mary's parents were William McLaughlin and Mary Duncan.

I will be in Donegal for three days, arriving on the evening of 28 September (next week) and staying at the Ocean Breeze B&B in Old Golf Course Rd, Donegal Town. The phone number there is 074 972 3827

If you have any information as to where I should go or who I should talk to I would greatly appreciate it.

I can be contacted via email  phantom.frank@gmail.com or you could leave a message at the Ocean Breeze for me.

Cheers

Frank Allan

  • Frank:

I looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Clonca civil parish which includes Malin. There was a James Monagle listed for Ballykenny townland. There were 7 William McLoughlin listed. I live in the States but will pass on the info regarding your trip to the Ireland XO HQ staff.

  • Thanks Roger

actually I had a typo in my original post. Patrick came to Australia in 1865, not 1856. He arrived in Melbourne on the Royal Standard in Feb 1865 and his age according to the register was 20 so that would mean he was born in 1844 or early 1845.
