I am a great-great-grandson of Peter O'Brien (1826-1909) and Bridget Flood (1839-after 1911) of Shannagh. The line down from them is a son James (1862-1940), who emigrated to Chicago and married Mary Ann Mulholland (1861-1933), born in Buncrana. The oldest of their children was also a James (1888-1928), who married Molly Hanafin (1887-1915), then Mary Ellen "Mae" Casey (1898-1974), whose parents came from Kerry and Clare. The oldest of James and Mae's three sons was my father William "Bill" (1923-1982).

I am eager to hear from others working in the area and on related families. Through Ancestry, where our O'Brien-Kuligowski Family Tree can be seen, I started corresponding with cousins in Wexford and Dublin. Stephen in Wexford is descended from Peter's daughter Catherine O'Brien McGoldrick (b. 1876). Michael in Dublin is descended from Peter's younger  sister, Catherine O'Brien Nash (1836-1914).

  • Maybe not closely related, but I'm going on the presumption that there's a connection somewhere. Generalogy offers continuing surprises.

Thanks for these. James was my father's grandfather (the late son James above was his father), Nellie a great grand aunt.

Happy New Yera and happy hunting!
