My great-great grandfather John McGarrigle was born in Foyagh about 1818 PROBABLY to Edward McGarrigle.  He sailed to New Brunswick, Canada, in 1841 where he taught school in Pennfield and St. Andrews before moving to Milltown where he was principal of the Catholic school there. He married Tyrone native Mary McPeake, which became McPike in New Brunswick and they had 12 children.

I have twice visited the Catholic cemetery in Drumhome where John's brothers, the Rev. Edward McGarrigle and James McGarrigle, are buried and was fortunate to stand atop Foyagh Hill which had been part of the McGarrigle family's farmland.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Hopefully others with McGarrigle connections will see your post and comment. You may want to post an article about your great-great grandfather on our XO Chronicles site http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
