Hi,

I'm researching my great great grandparents Patrick McGinley and Catherine Gavigan (I previously thought her surname was Galagher). On their marriage cert, it says that Catherine's address prior to the marriage was 'kiltyfanad' - I know this is an area in Donegal, down in Glencolmcille somewhere but I don't know what parish or registration district it's in, if someone could please let me know. Also, if anyone is related or knows anything more of this couple. Patrick was from Port in Glen - a very remote area. His father was named Patrick McGinley and his mother was Margaret (still alive in 1901 aged 79), I don't know her maiden name.

Catherine Gavigan's father was John Gavigan. Catherine was born in about 1863.

If anyne can help me with any of the above I'd really appreciate it.

Kiltyfanned, Killaned (where Margaret McGinleu lived in 1901 ) and Port are all townlands in Glencolumkille civil parish. The registration district is Glenties.

I looked for civil death index records for Patrick McGinley. There were 3 or 4 who died in the 1890s. This record is the closest to the age of Margaret in 1901.

I also found two possible death index records for Margaret in the 3rd quarter of 1901.

  • Katelyn,

I just saw your post today as I haven't had a computer for awhile.
My maternal great grandparents were Patrick McGinley and Kate McGinley (nee Gavigan) from Port in Glencolumbkille.

I realize that it has been over a year since you posted your message but if you do see this feel free to contact me.

  • I did get your email through this site. Yes we are cousins...Patrick and Kate are my Great Grandparents. My Grandmother, Kate, was your Great Grandmother's younger sister. I sent you an email to your personal address that was listed on here. It may have gone into your spam folder because I am not on your contact list. That's where I found yours. I attached a photo of the house in Port as it looked in 2008 when I was there.

Look forward to chatting with you!
