    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on Roots Ireland and did not see any marriage records for Peter. Of course, as far as I can tell the 19th century marriage records for Kilcar are not available. I also checked the 1864 and later civil index records and did not locate a record. Do you know the year of his death?

  • Hi

Do you know if Peter had any children with any of his wives ? The catholic  baptism register for Kilcar from 1851  is available online at http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1018 ..

Do you have a townland that he resided ?

The surname Gillespie was prevalent just outside Kilcar in an area called Largy . The people of Largy also used the church in Killybegs so it might be worth browsing that register as well . http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1019, if you find nothing in Kilcar .

Civil births, marriages & deaths were normally registered in Glenties registration district

  • Peter left Ireland around 1850. Evidently he returned briefly since his third marriage took place there.

His children were born in New York (John, Bernard, Ann) and Montreal (Peter, Bridget, James, Cornelius, Francis).

He died in Montreal in 1896.
