My great great grandarents were Patrick McGarvey (1829-1908) and Hannah Dougherty (1832-1916). They were from Letterkenny, Donegal, Ireland and immigrated to Beaver Meadows, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA in 1857. Their daughter Mary H Gallagher (nee McGarey)(1853-1916) was my great grandmother. Mary H McGarvey married John Gallagher from Ballyshannon in Beaver Meadows, PA in 1875 and they migrated west to New Mexico where they built a ranch and a family at Eagle Nest, Colfax County, New Mexico. The RC Parish of Kilmacrenan (wich I assume covers Letterkenny) does not contain baptism or marriage records older than September, 1854 and Mary McGarvey was born in 1853. Her parents, Patrick and Hannah Daugherty were married in 1852 or 1853. I cannot find any trace of the McGarvey family in Letterkenny, Ireland before they came to the USA. I am searching for a Dougherty or McGarvey researcher or family member that might recognize this family from Letterkenny. Certainly, not all the McGarvey and Dougherty siblings immigrated to theUSA. It is possible that some siblings and parents remained in Letterkenny or surrounding vicinity. Your assistance would be greaty appreciated. Thank you and Belss you all in Ireland. Bernard S. Jackson, Sacramento, CA, USA.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The Letterkenny records start in May 1853. Try this register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1012

Thank you Roger. When I open the "Marriages May 1853, the first record starts at 1854. I have scrolled through the entire record and find tht the dates only increase. Are you able to see 1853 entries? It is frustrating to think that the index card was mislabeled or 1853 marriage / baptismal records were omitted.
Have a look please. Regards, Bernard

Are the townlands of Moyra and Derryreel in this parish? If so, are there cemetery records available for both/ either towns?
Thank you. Bernard Scott Jackson, Sacramento, CA, USA

I see this is an old post but hope this helps a little, my great great grandfather was John who married Mary mcgarvey. My great grandmother left me a journal it doesn't say to much about their lives in Ireland other than that John Gallagher was wanted by the Irish government for being a member of the Irish republic brotherhood.
The journal says that Mary Mcgarvey and her family were from the town of Donegal the journal reads that Mary and her family came to the US in 1860.
I wish I could be more help, I'm looking for similar stuff all I know on John's side that he had 7 brothers and they all were fleeing the Irish government.
