how do I search for the parish name?

In the mid-19th century both surnames were found in a number of parishes in Co. Donegal and in Co. Derry. Presumably your ancestors were Church of Ireland. Do you have names and dates of your Irish ancestors so we can see if any baptismal records are available.

thank you for responding.  My great great great grandfather was Robert Patton (1753-1823) supposedly born in Ireland in Donegal County.  He was married to Jean or Jane Ramsey (1754-1860) from Waterford, Ireland before coming to the US in around 1780-1800.   They brought with them John, Margaret, William, Jean, children and arrived in Virginia.  Willim, son of Robert, has on his tombstone that he was born in Londonderry, Ireland.  They were  Presbyterians. 

I do not have any knowledge of thier parents in Ireland.  Their Ancestors were from Scotland.  Fran OBrien
