My GG grandparents were Peter Coyle and Rose Lynagh of Glenierargh, Rossguill, Donegal.  His son Owen stayed in Ireland and had 4 children - 2 were sent to live with their aunt Julia Coyle in NYC.  Two (Joe and Rose) stayed in Glenierargh with their dad.  Joe died in 1984.  My G grandmother Sarah and her brother James emmigrated to the US.  We know that there was at least one other cousin Charles Coyle that Joe was not on good terms with when he died.

I'm looking for any of my Coyle relatives which include Lynagh, McGettigan, Friel relatives who married into my Coyles from Donegal.

Thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We do not have a parish liaison in Mevagh parish. You may want to try the online Irish phone book and search for Coyle, Friel, McGettigan and Lynagh in the Mevagh area.

By the way, the 1911 census also shows a Maggie Coyle age 3 in the family. Looks like James was born after March 31st 1911 when the census was taken. http://census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002121149/

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Hello Frank. I have just come across this site and your message. Rose Lynagh, who married petr Coyle, was my husband's great-great-aunt. She was born in Glen, Donegal in 1823. Her brother Michael was my husband (Norman)'s GG grandfather. So the common relative was Patrick Lynagh from Toragh, Donegal, Rose's father.

We live in Derbyshire, England and would love to make contact.

    Very warmest wishes,

    Maureen

    Hello Frank:

I already made contact with you and another Lynch via 23 and me where we had aDNA match in 2019. Your Great Great Grandmother Sarah Coyle Guiry was my Great Grand Father James Joseph Coyle's younger sister. James Coyle was from Rosguill, County, Ireland. He married Mary Ann Strain, who was also a 3rd cousin, who came from the same general area. They met and married in Queens New York, but moved to Philadelphia PA in the late 1980s with his new job as a Forman on the PA Railroad. They had trn children Mary (Mame) Ann Coyle Mclaughlin, Rose Ann Coyle Hueber (My Grandmother), Peter Joseph Coyle, James Francis Coyle, Kathryn Bridget Coyle Killian, Hugh Joseph Coyle, Julia Mary Coyle Morrow, Grace Dorothy Coyle Hinkie, John Joseph Coyle. and George William Coyle who died at the age of 4 or 5 during a Flu epidemic I think.

My grandmother Rose Ann Coyle was named after Rose Mary Lnagh Coyle and she married William Charles Hueber from Bridesburg PA at Saint Joachim Parish in Frankford Philadelphia PA and they had 8 children, Rose Mary Hueber Fahy, William Charle Hueber, Grace Hueber (Sister Bernadette Therese of Immaculate Heart Nuns), Rita Mary Hueber Geiger, Teresa Hueber Murphy, Bernadette Marie Hueber (Died from Brain Anorism at age of 3), Marie Berandette Hueber Morell (My Mother), and Joseph S Hueber.

My Mother Marie Bernadette Hueber Married Wilbert Joseph Morell Jr and I am Wilbert Joseph Morell III, the oldest of 10 children, and am 66 years old have 3 children and 4 grandchildren so far.

I highly recommend Coyle offspring to join 23 and me and take the DNA tests with them to see many cousins from 1st to 6th generations.

  • Hi,

Peter Coyle and Rose Lynagh are my great, great grandparents.  They had a son Michael who is my great, grandfather.  I'm having great bother trying to find any records for Michael from Ireland, first evidence of him is his marriage in Duntocher, Clydebank, Scotland in 1895.

Have any of you came across Michael (born around 1865 (+/- 7 years).  I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Ive done my DNA on Ancestry and all the names you mention are coming up through DNA matches, this is why I know I have the right family.  Thanks

    Regards! Clair Coyle

    Ents. Hi Clair

Your Michael must have been the youngest of the Coyle children of Peter Coyle and Rose Lymagh Coyle and named after her brother Michael. This is the first I have heard of him and I been working on my family tree since 1990. I did my  first DNA via FTDNA in US about 2000 and then 23 and me 2 to 3 years ago where I am linked to James Coyl and Sarah Coyle clans.  Julia Coyle was either their older sister or an aunt, forget. My grandmother Rose Ann Coyle Hueber told me her paternal grandparents Peter Coyle and Rose Lynagh Coyle stayed in Ireland when her dad James Coyle and his sister Sarah Coyle Guidry was sent to America as children to live with Julia Coyle since she was alone as a spinster. Wish I could help more. I never did DNA with ancestry, but it is linked to FTDNA. I found 23 and me to be the best bet to link to family going back to many generations. The Morell's, Hueber, Fahy, Murphy, Morrow, Walsh, McLaughlin, Hinkie, and Killian were my first and second cousin Coyle connections, you would fall under a third cousin connection if Peter and Rose actually had a son Michael.  I also show Oen as William Owen Coyle where Frank said his name was just Owen Coyle. I also show the family from Rosguill, Donegal Ireland on my great grandfather James Joseph Coyle's US Naturalization documents. His wife was Mary Ann Strain Coyle who was also his third cousin and she came from Dunfanafhy, Donegal, Ireland on the same papers.

  • Thanks Bill,

Through the Ancestry DNA Ive been linked with all the names you have given, but just very strange that I cant locate a birth certificate for Michael.  He was born around 1860 to Peter & Rose, states on his death certificate he was 67 in 1927.

Im hoping to go to Donegal once restrictions allow, but with so little clarity on Michael it may be like searching for a needle in a haystack lol!

    Many thanks, Clair

My grandmother Rose Ann Coyle was named after Rose Mary Lynagh Coyle and she married William Charles Hueber from the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA at Saint Joachim Parish in  the Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia PA and they had 8 children, Rose Mary Hueber Fahy, William Charle Hueber, Grace Hueber (Sister Bernadette Therese of Immaculate Heart Nuns), Rita Mary Hueber Geiger, Teresa Hueber Murphy, Bernadette Marie Hueber (Died from Brain Anorism at age of 3), Marie Berandette Hueber Morell (My Mother), and Joseph S Hueber.

My grandmother told me she visited the Coyle and Strain first cousins and aunts and uncles in New York and they did the same visiting in Philadelphia. The Coyle-Guiry cousins were often mentioned.

Like thousands of us, we never went to Ireland, but wished to see the land of our roots. My one daughter who went to college for acting, Law, and Business did  semester at Saint Patricks in Dublin. She ated in hundreds of plays in Louisiana and Mississippi and was also in two movies such as 21 Jump Street. She got her Law Degree and an MBA  from the Alabama University. She is the Operations CEO for a company that owns all the Urgent Care Medical Centes in Alabama that have branched out to Georgia and Florida. Our DNA indicates we are over 90% Irish. Personally, I feel we are just Americans.

  • Frank and Kyle Lynch:

Julia A Coyle was not the Aunt of James and Sarah, whe was actually their sister with James being older and Sarah younger. Julia was born in 1867 and she came to America with a promise of a job as a servant girl. Hannah Strain (mother of Mary Ann Strain Coyle) came to America in 1866 as a widow following a couple of her older children and with her toddlers between 1966-1970. As I mentioned the Strains were third cousins to the Coyle's as mentioned on James Coyle and Mary Ann Srain Coyle's naturilization documents and Hannah set up employment for Julia Coyle as a servant girl in Queens New York in 1883 before James and Sarah Coyle came later iabout 1887.

My FTM records also shows that Peter and Rose Coyle had 9 children, but my records only show James, Julia, and Sarah coming to the USA. I show: Rose, John, William Owen, Bridget, James Joseph, Julia, Sarah, and Joseph, no mention of Michael, but that does not mean there was not a Michael.
