I'm a descendant of Caldwell Campbell (ca. 1826-1902) of Balleeghan, son of John Campbell (ca.1793-1878); & Jane Douglas(s) (ca. 1837-1884) of Carrowhugh, daughter of James Douglas(s) (ca. 1808-1868).  They m. 1859, Moville Lower Church of Ireland.  Caldwell, John, & Jane all died in Balleghan.  James died in Carrowhugh.

They had 4 children, that I know of, all born in Balleghan, & all of these married in Boston in the US, & died in that area:

  • Andrew, b. 1864, m. 1885 Matilda Campbell, d. 1899
  • Anna, b. ca. 1867, m. 1889 John Keefe, d. 1840 (my ancestors)
  • Jane, or Jennie, b. 1868, m. 1893 James Smith, d. 1931
  • Caldwell, b. 1872, m. 1921 Annie Millar (or Miller?), d. 1931, I believe he also went by the name John

I've seen other Campbells in Balleghan, & other Douglases in Carrowhugh, & assume they are related, but don't know how.  I was wondering if anyone had further information on the families in Ireland.

  • Thank you for your assistance. 

    I do have Caldwell Campbell, Sr. & Jr. on the 1901 census.  I also have the Griffith's Valuation records for the area. 

    I've found some records on rootsireland.ie website:

    • Jane (1868) & Caldwell Jr.'s (1872) birth records
    • Caldwell Sr.'s 1902 death record (also have copy from the GRO)
    • Jane (Douglas) Campbell's 1884 death record
    • Caldwell & Jane's 1859 marriage record (also have copy from GRO)
    • John Campbell's 1878 death

    I found James Douglas' 1868 death in an index on familysearch.org website.  I haven't gotten that record yet.

    I also have various U.S. records: vital records, censuses, naturalizations, etc.

    I probably should've mentioned that the Caldwell, Jr. came to the U.S. in 1909 (he was living in Glasgow at that time), & the other 3 children came to the U.S. in the 1880s.

  • I am directly related to this line at well. I do have some information on this Campbell line and a little on the Douglas. Also Andrew Campbell that married Matilda Campbell (maiden name) were cousins of some sort, according to my grandmother. Let me know if you need help still.
