Hi I am looking for information or suggestions as to where to look .
My Great Grandmother Rebecca McDade married George Lough 8 July 1866, Portaferry, Church of Ballyphilip. She appears to be from Portaferry. Her father is named as William McDade, Baliff. I have information on the Lough side but little on the McDade’s.
Details on Rebecca’s death registration in Scotland confirm her father’s name but his occupation appears to be Church clerk! He mother’s name is difficult to read but it looks like Elizabeth Casseus or possibly Cassens.
I am looking for her mother’s name, whether Rebecca had siblings, where / when William McDade died and same with Elizabeth Casseus/ Cassens.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church. In this case that was Ballyphillip Church of Ireland, so that tells you her denomination. It could also be where she and her siblings were baptised.
I notice that the witnesses were William McDade (presumably her father) and a John McDade, perhaps a brother?
There’s a copy of Ballyphillip’s records in PRONI in Belfast. The records start in 1745. Personal visit required to view them. My guide to Church of Ireland records says that rootsireland has some years records. It does not say what years. Subscription site.
An Eliza McDade of Portaferry married at that same church in 1852. Her father was also William McDade but his occupation was shoemaker, which is odd. However I am pretty sure it’s the right family because Eliza Boomer was the informant at Eliza McDade’s death.
She seems to have been widowed and remarried in 1892 at which time she gave her father’s occupation as schoolmaster.

A Mary McDade of Portaferry married at the same church in 1877. Her father was William who was a “process server” which is much like a bailiff, and so I’d say this is a sister to Rebecca.

William McDade and Eliza Cassens marriage appears to be before the start of statutory registration in Ireland in 1845, so it isn’t on-line. You might find it in the Ballyphillip Church of Ireland records.

Thank you very much for your work and this information. I will now take a closer look! The shoemaker and Baliff and Process Server are confusing re William. The last clue I have to William is January 1885 in the home of George Lough and Rebecca McDade. There is a court case and he is mentioned being in the home. George and Rebecca head for Glasgow and have a child born there in 1887.
so on the assumption he stayed the only death for a William McDade after 1885 and approx age , is 26 May 1890 Portaferry Downpatrick as you stated. He is a shoemaker , this was registered by a Mary Jane Tomelty- another daughter?
