To Whomever,

 

I hvae the following information about my great great grandfather. I am sending you part of a parchment certificate about him. I would appreciate any suggestions as to where I should go to find more information. It appears to carry some weight because it says if the parchment is  lost it can not be duplicated.

 

These are to Certify, that No 3052 (Private Patrick McCumiskey) born in the( Parish of Clonuff) in or near the (town of Hilltown) in the (county of Down) was enlisted at Newry for the 54th Regiment on the( 24 of jan, 1853 at the age of 18 years. )That the service he is enlisted to reckon is 21 Years an 66 Days towards the completion of his second term of limited engagement-21- years 11 Days towards Pay and Pension.

  • No sign of him on fmp or Ancestry. The main repository for military records is the National Archives, Kew, near London. The records themselves are not on-line though you may be able to establish whether they have nay record of him from their website.
