My great great grandparents were John Conway b 22 November 1835 and Agnes Smyth b C1839 d 25th November 1902. I don't know where exactly they were born except that in the but they left Ireland for Scotland not known when and returned to Ireland after the birth of my Great grandfather John William Conway 1860 in Scotland. They had a further 3sons born in Ireland Hugh and Francis and James. John and Francis emigrated to Tasmania Australia, Hugh went to New Zealand the difference in spellings of surnames have been confusing in trying to find information. I have a picture of Agnes's headstone where she was buried in Pound House Donaghadee. Other family researchers have John Conway senior returning to Scotland with his daughter Sarah but no actual proof that this has happened but can't be ruled out as John and Agnes had a number of children in Scotland not known their whereabouts
John was registered as the father of Hugh 23/04/1866 in the district of Bangor in the Superintendent Registers District of Newtowners,County Down Ireland, and named as a Laborer of Cottown the informant was Susanna Smith who signed with an X and she was present at the birth.
Registered in County Down Bangor records as Francis Connoway son of John Connoway & Agnes Smith born 10th April 1871. the only other info I have is a picture of John and Agnes in Ireland not known the year.
Susanna Smith may be another angle in finding info but have not attempted this yet.
John and Agnes had another 2 children James and Sarah in County Down .James had married and had 7 children who were living with John and Agnes after James wife died in1901 acorrding to the 1901 Census
Any help in finding lost family would be appreciated

Is this your Conway family in the 1901 census?

Hi Roger
thank you for your reply. According to another family member this is possible as I'm told their son James's wife died and Agnes looked after the children when he went back to Scotland. The only problem is I'm not sure of the lay of the land in Ireland and I have Agnes Conway buried at Donaghadee. They did live there so I've been told and have a photo of them in front of their house which they rented in Donaghadee? and the lease evidently wasn't given up till 1917 according to my cousin.when John returned to Scotland with his daughter Sarah who was born on County Down.James the son remarried and I have no info on him or his children. My cousin thinks that Pound House was maybe a nursing home as Agnes died there but have not been able to confirm this either. I have also checked the 1911 census and John is there with his daughter Sarah and 3 of James's children and not all the family had moved to Scotland.so I was told that there are still cousins living in Down. Each time I talk to my cousin she adds more info but no facts so I can only follow this info and hopefully I'll find proof and my cousins.
Thank you for this information

Carol:
Just to clarify, the family was living in Donaghadee town in 1901.
Also, this is likely the civil death index record for Agnes.

Hi Roger
Yes this looks to be right Agnes died on the 25th of November 1902. I checked the census link and found Agnes and John their son James whose name I had but didn't know anything about so assumed he had died in Scotland, (which is where I had been given as his birth place so that info was wrong) And there was a number of children that were James's.Looking at all the info it looks like they all returned to Scotland except I don't know about James's children that were old enough to be employed. In the 1911 census John is still at the same address as in 1901 and his daughter Sarah and 3? grandchilren are living there.Sarah is still going by the Conway name as are the children. Would there be any records to show if the family returned to Scotland?

There are no shipping records available that I'm aware of between Ireland and Scotland. It was all part of Great Britian.
