Hi,
I know Catholic church records are scarce before 1830, but I am taking a chance here.
I am looking for birth or marriage records of Thomas Heney (1770-1867) and his wife Mary Ann Morgan (1783-1856) from Warrenspoint, county Down. They had a son in Ireland (James, 1807-1893) before crossing over with him to Lower Canada (between Quebec and Montreal) probably around 1814 with the military. James's record puts his birth in Clonallon but I believe it is near Warrenspoint.
Perhaps if I could get in touch with the parish priest but I don't know how nor if he would be bothered by my request.
Any ideas? I do not wish to spend a lot of money on sites like IT because I believe my chances to be very slim from what I have read on your site regarding the poor availability of records.
Thanks for your help.

Guy:
RC records for the Warrenspoint area start in 1826 which is after your Heney family left Ireland.

Guy,
As Roger has said, there are no RC parish records for the period you are looking for and so you are unlikely to get anything directly from that source or the parish priest. The RC parish of Clonallan covers the area around Warrenpoint (it includes the 2 civil parishes of Clonallan and Warrenpoint).
Expect the spelling of the surname to vary eg Heany, Heanny, Heaney etc.
Looking at Griffiths Valuation for 1864 there are 6 Heany households listed in Clonallan, in the townlands of Croan, Mayo & Carrogs. In the absence of any other leads you might want to bear those families in line as there is obviously a chance that your are descended from one of them. DNA testing is probably the only way to find out, if you can trace any living descendants.

Here?s some of those families in 1901. All are in Carrogs. The ones in Mayo & Croan have left or intermarried with other families:

You can do the same thing with the surname Morgan. Search Griffiths and any other civil records under the parish of Warrenpoint as well as Clonallan.
