Hi fellow Irishmen,

I'm looking to learn more about my great-great-great-grandfather, Michael McVey. He was born in County Down in 1803 and later moved to Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. He was a farmer.

Thanks very much!

    Hi Felicity,

Thanks for your post. I also responded to your previous message regarding Catherine in Fermanagh. One again do you have any other information that you could post? The more information that you post the more likely it is that someone will be able to help. Do you know the parish that Michael was born in? Do you know his religious denomination? Do you know the names of his parents? All of this information will help when determining what records are relevant to your search.

In my previous message I gave you a list of websites that may help you in your search for information - all of these will be relevant for Michael aswell. I hope that they help you, and guide you in the right direction for your research!

    Thanks again,

    Kind regards.

I have some information on a Michael McVay because I had a Y-chromosome DNA test done that matched me to a Michael McVay, who was born about 1770 Ballyfrench, Co. Down, and married Jane Palmer 20th Nov. 1790 [by special licence] in Glastry Prebysterian Church, In the Parish of Innishargie, Co. Down. Son is Michael McVea b 1791 Ballyfrench, Portavogie, m. Unknown. See World Families Forums http://www.worldfamilies.net/forum/index.php?topic=8787.0

His descendent and I are not closely related even though McVey/McVay is certainly not a commom surname. My G2 grandfather was Joseph McVay, born 1828 in County Derry and emigrated to Johnstown, PA where he was a coalminer.

I hope that this can help.
