My 2 times great grandfather John Spratt (sometimes spelled Sprott) was born 17 July 1837 in Dromara. He was a farmer, as was his father John.
John married Ann Elizabeth McMullen (b 1840, died 20 April 1906 in Banbridge) on 7 Nov 1856 at Drumgooland church of Ireland.
Their 2 children were Andrew (1864-1937) and Mary Jane (1866-1870).
Ann Elizabeth's father was Thomas McMullen, a farmer.
Any information on the McMullens or Spratts/Sprotts would be appreciated.
Brian.

Brian,
Can you let me know the townlands on the marriage certificate?
Statutory birth registration only started in Ireland in 1864. Since this couple married in 1856, there’s a fair chance they had other children prior to 1864, but to trace then you would need to look up church records. Drumgooland’s baptism records start in the 1780s and there’s a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. Their copies are not on-line and so a personal visit is required to access them. If you are unable to go there yourself, you may need to employ a researcher.

Elwyn - the 1856 marriage certificate says "the parish church...in the parish of Drumgooland in the County Down." It also says "according to the rites and ceremonies of the United church of England and Ireland...by license".
Hope that helps...
Brian.

Brian,
It was the townlands that I need. What does it say for "Residence at the time of marriage" on the certificate?

Elwyn:
The FindMyPast transcription only shows Drumgooland for the place. John was shown as John Sprott and his father was John. The father of Ann was Thomas. The Griffiths for Drumgooland parish shows a Thomas McMullen in Derryneill townland. Maybe this is Ann's father. There is also a John Sprout in Ballydrumman townland-- father or son?
