I am looking for the proof of marriage for John Monroe born 30 Jun 1800 and Martha Hull born 15 Nov 1810 and married about 1829 thought to be Dromore Parish.  They left for Canada in North America about 1838.  I can find proof of birth of the chldren born in Ireland with parent's names but not the proof of marriage.  My direct email is munroe.bob@sbcglobal.net.  Any help is appreciated.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was locked out from posting comments until today.

You don't mention the religious denomination of the couple and where you found the childrens baptismal records. Possibly, since the marriage likely occurred in the bride's parish, the records for that parish no longer exist back to 1829 or they are not available online. I did check Roots Ireland and did not find the marriage record.

If your family was RC, the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online later this summer for free searching.

  • The religious preference was the Church of Ireland and it is those records for Dromore Parish (Dromore Cathedral) that I found online for baptismal records.  I have not found marriage records and I am subscribed to 3 genealogical sites in Ireland so perhaps the records do not exist online.  I was hoping that there were records perhaps off line that people could help with.  Best Regards, Bob Munroe Dallas, TX

  • Hi Bob,

I am excited to read that you've found early marriage records online for Dromore Cathedral! My ancestors Joseph Martin and Elizabeth Jam*son were more than likely married there around 1830 (their first child, Elizabeth, was born in 1830). I thought I had exhausted all online resources for this event, but perhaps not. Would you please let me know where to find the records?

Thanks so much and wishing you all the best,

According to Roots they have marriage records for Dromore C of I church from 1784-1845. ( They do not have baptismal records). I searched the indexes from 1824-1834 and could not find a marriage record for a John Monroe or Martha Hull in all of Co. Down.

Have you considered contacting the church? http://cathedral.dromore.anglican.org/

  • Roger, thanks so much for searching for the Maritn/Jam*son marriage record! I have contacted the church and wasn't able to get definitive results. Lots of Martins and Jam*sons in Dromore during that time ....

    all the best,
    Beth
