I need help researching my family tree!

I have

ALEXANDER BOYLE born c.1805 County Down to Margaret nee UNKNOWN & JOHN BOYLE.

ALEXANDER BOYLE  married LUCINDA CAUGHEY or SLOAN date & place unknown .

ALEXANDER & LUCINDA  had 5 known children viz

John born c. June 1830 Crossnamuckley

William Henry born c.Nov 1832 Ballybuttle

Margaret born c July 1837 Ballyboley

Mary born c.March 1840 Ballyblack

Sarah born Jan 1843 Ballyhaft

ALL the children were baptised at Ballycopeland Presbyterian.Church.

  • I understand that an early Minister of Ballyblack Presyterian was a BOYLE?
  • does anyone have any BOYLE  baptisms, marrriages or headstones from the Grey Abbey area?
  • does anyone have any marriages from any of the towns listed above for Alexander & Lucinda who perhaps married in the 1820s?
  • does anyone have any death /burial info for John & Margaret Boyle?
  • we assume Lucinda died before the rest of the family emigrated to New Zealand between 1862 and 1865. Is there a headstone anywhere? She may have died between Jan 1843 and Aug 1865.

We have NO idea what happened to John b. 1830. All of the others bar Lucinda (Lucy) emigrated to NZ.

I would be very grateful indeed for any advice, leads, go to places, resources etc to help in my quest!

    I have been following your research with interest and would like to add that I had an additional surname of Ceahy for Lucinda Boyle just to confuse the mix.

    I have worked with Marlene on some of my research and helped piece some of the puzzle together but probably like you and Marlene this puzzle is getting the better of me and I would like to see it resolved.

    Over the last few weeks the following has been in my mind as a possible solution so I thought I would share it with you. Given that my family history (and possibly yours) has a trail of Huntingdons disease and it most likely originated from Lucinda what about searching the records of mental insitutions in County Down and tracing her that way because chances are that she would have been in one at some point (and probably where she would have died). She may have possibly been still alive when Alexander left. I have just had a cousin pass away from it which spurred the idea.

    I have copies of police records that state Mary Boyle as being an imbecile in one record and an idiot in another so you can see how they perceived the disease in those days.

     

    Let me know your thoughts.
